Howdy from snowy AZ! Joseph, Tyler, Shari, and Theresa at AD school this week!
We love kids stories!
LC Valley:
This fall we met this girl at Lewiston High School. Her name is Lyrica. (what an awesome name!) After her first week of coming to club, we talked about fall camp at Pinelow, and she was one of the first kids to sign up. At Camp, when we had area meeting times, Lyrica told the whole group that this was the first time that she had felt like she belonged here, and is fully comfortable. She felt like it was a place where everyone accepted her for who she is.
Fast forward to this week. We had our first club of the 2023 year.
Lyrica came to club, but with swollen eyes as if she had been crying. Right off the bat, she told her leader that she was having a really difficult day mentally and emotionally. Her leader’s response was “Well, sounds like Young Life is the best place for her to be!” Later that night, we get a text from one of our student leaders that said, “On the drive home tonight Lyrica told me tonight was the first time she has smiled or laughed in a while and that she really missed having Young Life. Way to be a safe space for our friends and develop an environment in which they can feel happy and comfortable but most importantly a place where they are excited to go to. Have a good night everyone!!” Two nights later she stepped into a church for the first time after Declan invited her

Billings:
200 kids showed up to Wyldlife club last night, it was absolutely insane. There were multiple complaints against us by the end of the night…which you know what that means…WE HAVE ARRIVED! (no pics so we’re a little skeptical it actually happened. jk.)
North Spokane:
A high school girl, searching for hope, from Mead HS in Spokane found our Instagram account, and saw our crazy video invitations we do weekly for club. She sent a DM asking if she can come (answer was ‘yes’) and showed up to club that night, and for months, seeming to soak in everything. In mid spring last year, she went through a long rough patch, was in and out of hospital, and pretty much vanished, although her leader, Tanita, kept reaching out. After over 9 months off the grid, she showed up out of nowhere last Monday at club, and with a scene reminiscent of the father in the prodigal son story, Tanita ran to her, threw her arms around her and wept loudly while bear hugging her with tears streaming, rejoicing that she had come back! A beautiful picture of what kind of space we make in Young Life to show kids they are welcome, and that Jesus prepared a place for every one of them to ‘come home.’
